These are the official BruBag rules—everything you need to set up your boards, play through the action, and win the game. Pick a section below and get started.
Goal
The goal of BruBag is simple: sink all your bags into your opponent's holes before they do the same to you—combining beer pong precision with cornhole strategy.
Team
Play head-to-head 1v1 or team up 2v2. Each player or team gets their own set of bags to throw every round.
Tossing Line
All throws are made from behind the marked tossing line, set at a standard distance from the board. Cross the line and the toss doesn't count.
Set-Up
Before play begins, place the two boards facing each other at regulation distance. Make sure both boards are level, stable, and squared up to one another.
Bags
Each team uses their own colored set of bags. Bags are tossed alternately during rounds so both sides get an equal shot at the holes.

Officially – each team tosses one bag at the opposing team's board simultaneously. The team that sinks the first hole starts the game.
Unofficially – Rochambeau aka "Rock Paper Scissors"
Previous winners go first in any subsequent games / tournaments.
Boards are placed 20 feet apart.
Each player throws 1 bag each round.
Anywhere behind the front edge of the board.
Nope! To give the defenders a chance, you must wait until the first bag lands on the board before the second bag is thrown.
Yes, bags that land on the board but don't go in remain in play and are not removed.
The exception is if a bag lands on the ground then rolls/bounces onto the board. That bag is to be removed.
You cannot physically interfere with the player tossing or the bag itself… however you can still heckle them.
Any interference results in a re-throw.
Reset the board placing all covers in their proper place before the second player throws.
It shouldn't happen often but can, especially if you are playing on hard surfaces.
Re-racks are only allowed at the beginning of your round. Meaning if the first player already threw, you cannot re-rack.
If both players made one hole each, which gives them "bags back", it is still technically the same round and you still aren't allowed to re-rack.
This can happen in one of two ways:
The defending team isn't paying attention. It is important that the defending team places a cover on any hole a bag goes through. If they fail and the second bag goes through the same hole… sorry, you lose!
You push/bump your partners bag into the same hole. Anything can happen in BruBag. You could be up 5-0 and your opponent can land a bag which hangs over a hole. The second opponent, can push/bump both bags through the same hole to get an instant win… That's teamwork!
Yes, each player will be able to "shoot until they miss". Meaning they will be able to continue throwing until they fail to make a hole.
Once the first player misses, the second player has a chance "shoot until they miss".
If they successfully close out the remainder of the holes then the game goes into overtime.
If not, see ya later!
Instant win rules still apply however they do not "win", they just move into overtime.
Cover the back row leaving the front triangle open. The team that won prior to redemption goes first.
Normal rules apply except there is no re-rack allowed.
